View Full Version : 4x4 rights of way
I thought you all would like to read this from my local paper. It's about time something was sorted out over this matter. If these roads are being chewed up then the Government needs to spend money to repair them. It's not like we expect the roads to be motorway standard but when they are marked on a map that should be enough, they should be marked on the ground sign posts ect.

Not only is it crap, but it's not even right is it .. the CRoW act 2000 took away the claim to use a RoW based on horse and cart activity.
They just about get the point that it's illegal use that's the problem, though citing recreational users as possibly encouraging fly tipping is laughable !
Could you imagin someone driving 2 miles down a muddy, rutted track so that they can dump a 3 piece suit? not to mention the miles to get to the track in the first place.

G7 - funnily enough your area is one of the few areas where routes are signposted. In south northumberland many UCRs are signed as 'Public Right of Way' and further west around Alston as 'Public Byroads'. Both fairly meaningless to most but for those in the know you know what it means so its red rag to a bull. I'm surprised at that article - I always thought Northumberland were very good regarding green lanes - not only in signing but also they were very helpful when I had an incident with a violent farmer near Hexham! They also have been reclassifying some UCRs as BOATS to make them more widely known and also upgrading some bridleways to BOATs
