Been there many a time.

Just beware; the ford can get VERY deep.

Once went through in my series 3, got very deep, very quickly, the bonnet was sumerged and water was being picked up by my windscreen wipers and also rushing through my driver’s window.

Luckily, due to the nature of land rovers, water came though every available hole (plus I opened the drivers door to the second catch) ensuring that my Landy sank and not floated - as the last thing you want it to do is float - floating = no traction!!!

Water was up to my waist level inside and very cold.

I gunned it in reverse and came out.

Please note, my landy rover was not prepared for wading, no snorkel, extended breathers etc. The air filter no longer had oil inside, just water, as did my axles etc.

I freely admit I was lucky not to get stuck – possibly very, very dangerous and not to wreck my landy, and I should have checked the depth and speed of flow etc, etc…
But it was fun at the time!!!

Been through loads of times in my 90; most of the time the waters only about a foot and a half deep, but lately up to the bottom of my doors.
I always check first now though!

A good site for such things: www.wetroads.co.uk

Dave,

The depth of the ford varies greatly.

Mostly, this time of year, it is usually up to the bottoms of the doors, deep enough to create a 'nice' bow-wave - and to fill my spotlights with water.

Minimum depth, except in summer, is half a wheel depth.
As I said in the previous post (and as shown on wetroads.com) it can get very deep. Also, most of the time it's about 60 metres long.

The fords not too far from my house, probably about 8-10 mile.

There is also another closer to my house, part of a Green Lane, haven't been there yet, will soon though. Looks good on the wetroads web site. Found it on the Ordance Survey map ages ago, just haven't got round to driving it.

Let me know is you ever fancy a drive down.

back when I used to live in B'ham a mate of mine tried to get across it in his mini after watching me cross it my old 110 oh how we laughed when when it died halfway across and he had to get out through the window to get back to dry land and my long tow rope to drag it out and then drag him home back to Castle bromwich ,the mini still had water in it a week later :buck:
